Jaya Mansberger

BIOGRAPHY

Jaya Mansberger is an Oxford based painter. Her formative years were spent in Hawaii, Nepal and England. Jaya graduated from the Slade School of Fine Art in 2007, where she was awarded the Jeremy Cubbitt Prize for Painting. Whilst at art school she produced large scale psychologically charged portraits but following that created more abstract work. During the current Coronavirus crisis period she has begun experimenting with figurative painting and drawing again, taking her interest in ideas to do with spirituality and estrangement in new directions. Her work has been shortlisted for prizes such as The Sunny Art Prize (2018), Beep Wales International Painting Prize (2016), OVADA Professional Development Award (2014) and selected for group painting shows such as The Trouble With Painting Today at the Pump House Gallery, London (2014) and Informal Elements at OVADA Gallery, Oxford (2014). Other recent exhibitions include Pareidoilia, The Old Fire Station Gallery, Oxford (2017), This Must Be the Place I Never Wanted to Leave, Elysium Gallery, Swansea (2016), The Winter Garden, James Freeman Gallery, London (2014). Her paintings have appeared on poetry, book and album covers and she has curated exhibitions at the Old Fire Station Gallery in Oxford and also works as an art tutor, mentor and educator.
