BIOGRAPHY
Steve Patterson is an author, woodcarver and folklorist who lives and works in West Cornwall. He first came across Ithell Colquhoun in the mid-1980s during his explorations into the world of paganism in West Penwith. In May 2011 Steve curated the Museum of Witchcraft’s 60th anniversary Guardians of Cornish Magic conference with a major strand on Colquhoun, and in 2015 he presented a paper on Colquhoun at the Women in Print: Witchcraft and the Popular Press conference in Boscastle. Steve has incorporated her proto-psychogeography alongside her work as a magician and artist into a number of workshops and talks over the years. In 2016–17 he initiated the Ancient Scent project, in which a number of artists, performers, sorcerers and creative folk worked in Lamorna Valley, drawing directly on the landscape and techniques which informed Colquhoun’s work and culminating in an exhibition in Lamorna and residency in Ireland.
